Landscape Design Case Study

Watercrest Project

Watercrest Project

Overview

The old deck behind this home had served its purpose and provided many years of outdoor relaxation. But it was time for something new that would allow these homeowners to take their outdoor living to the next level!

The Challenge

There was a large deck that required a lot of maintenance that the homeowner wanted to remove. The hot tub was separated from the deck area so anyone in the hot tub was secluded and too far from the house.

There was no planned access to the backyard without going through the house. Lastly, because of all the trees, the backyard could be quite dark in the evenings.

The Design

We started by creating a large open patio space for entertaining complete with a fireplace. We moved the hot tub closer to the house and located it so it was still part of the patio area but slightly set apart. A walkway was designed to wrap around the house and connect to the driveway for easy access. The layout preserved the existing trees and we tied in some landscaping to give it a natural almost forest-like look. Lastly, we added low-voltage landscape lighting on the trees, around the patio and along the walkway to provide some beautiful ambient light in the evenings. The homeowners now have plenty of room on their patio to enjoy soaking in the hot tub, grilling, dining at a table for 6, and sitting around the grand fireplace.
